Jill Young

With a wealth of passion and experience, Jill brings so much to Act It Out and anybody of any age or ability she works with. Having graduated from Vocational Performance Arts Training with Honours qualifications, in both performance and teaching, Jill started her professional career working for Bill Kenwright in commercial musical and pantomime! Continuing with her performance career, Jill moved to the Manchester Library Theatre Company developing as a triple threat performer, even sharing a dressing room with Sir Laurence Olivier when filming for TV! Jill was also a hair and fashion model with Top Shot Productions.

Having moved into teaching, Jill ran the Modern Theatre Branch of Congleton Ballet School for 35 years, training and teaching all ages from 3 year old to adults. As well as teaching vocational students at The Hammond School in Chester, Jill has guest taught and demonstrated at The Royal Academy of Dance and taken Company Class for Matthew Bourne's dance company. Jill also taught on a regular basis at Birches Head Academy and Newstead Primary Academy as well as continued visit to school's all over with Act It Out. 

Using her organisational skills and professional manner, Jill has also worked with the world renowned Gandy Organisation (circus) as choreographer, directed and coordinated the first mass fashion show for outlets at The Potteries Centre, S-O-T, as well as choreographing and directing amateur groups throughout Cheshire and S-O-T (including The Golden Anniversary Show of the largest all male Scout Gang Show outside of London). Her contribution to performance arts earned her a trip for tea and cake with the Queen at Buckingham Palace back in 2017. 

One of Jill's main goals is to always learn, so continuing her professional development, she attended intensive training at The Poor School in London, concentrating on Shakespearean performance and stage combat. This led to being invited to perform at The Sadlers Wells Theatre in front of Dame Judy Dench and Jill becoming a fully fledged member of the Association of Performance Combat!

Jill has pulled on personal experiences to make her an extremely compassionate teacher who is approachable and friendly yet professional. Jill's strong passion for history (if you need to know a date of something historical just ask Jill!) helps brings sessions alive for any child or adult involved, making any era accessible, exciting and almost palpable! In case that wasn't enough, Jill is also in the process of writing and publishing some children's stories!

Jill holds a RAD Teachers DIP, LISTD (MB), AISTD (TB). MB and is an Equity Member.
